Day 1.Arrive Dublin Airport Sunday AM

 

You will be greeted by your guide and driver for the next 10 days and transferred into Dublin City, breakfast will be arranged for you at your hotel. We take an overview of Dublin City founded by the Vikings with your driver and guide before your taste buds are awake we then visit the Guinness Store House where a pint of black gold will be waiting for you when you reach the top floor with views of Dublin City. We continue back to your hotel to check in, now you have your own time to browse Dublin City your hotel is in the heart of Dublin at Temple Bar or relax your eyes for 40 winks before we depart your hotel at 18.00hrs for the first session of your Irish tour to Johnny Foxs pub in the Dublin Mountains. (Includes dinner)

Day 2.

After your late awakening and lie in, we depart your hotel approx 11.00hrs and drive North of Dublin City to The Megalithic Passage Tomb at Newgrange it was constructed approx 3200 BC. The 19 metre long inner passage leads to a cruciform chamber with a corbelled roof. It is estimated that the construction of the Passage Tomb at Newgrange would have taken a work force of 300 at least 20 years to construct. After lunch we drive coastal to the fishing village of Howth. Lambay Island just off Howth Harbour is where the Vikings first invaded Ireland in AD 759. We take time to stroll around this quaint fishing village with its fishing trawlers and Marina, and blow the cobwebs away with the fresh sea breeze air from the Irish Sea, there are also many pubs along the marina to quench your thirst if desired.

 

We then continue to the summit of Howth with sweeping views down into the Irish Sea and take the coast road back to your hotel passing Clontarf where Brian Boru the last High King of Ireland died at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014. Dinner is arranged in your hotel and then the craic (Gailge for fun) is in Temple Bar tonight with a great Irish Music session in Ireland's left bank.

Day 3.

We depart Dublin to County Waterford to an award winning farmhouse off the beaten track our day starts with a visit to Kilmainham Jail built in 1796 and witness to Irelands turbulent past from the late 18thc to the early 20thc. Prisoners from the United Irish rebellion of 1796 to the Easter Rising in 1916 and the Irish Civil War were held and often executed here. We continue to the medieval City of Kilkenny where lunch awaits on a setting overlooking the River Noir. After lunch we take a guided tour of Kilkenny Castle the Butlers of Kilkenny Castle were an Anglo-Norman family who came to Ireland in 1171 in the first wave of the Norman invasion. Kilkenny castle was the venue for the meeting of the General Assembly, or parliament, of the Confederate Ireland government in the 1640s. We now have time to browse Kilkenny with the locals and sample the creamy Kilkenny beer brewed in the City before heading for a rural setting Ballymacarbary County Waterford. After dinner we visit the local pub which is off the beaten track were a great Irish music session awaits, this could be a late night for those who can last the pace.

Day 4.

The early risers will see the cows being milked on the farm before homemade breakfast is served by Olive your host, our journey continues to Midleton home of Irish whiskey, we take a guided tour of the old distillery and sample some of Ireland’s famous whiskeys. Lunch awaits in the distillery café after lunch our tour continues to visit  Blarney Castle built in the 15thc  Here you have the opportunity to kiss the Blarney Stone, when kissed is said to endow the speaker with extraordinary powers of eloquence, what we call in Ireland the 'gift of the gab'. The stone was once kissed by Winston Churchill in 1912.Refreshments are the order of the day before you grace yourself in Blarney Woolen Mills a shop of wonderful and exciting Irish fair. Onwards we continue to Killarney in County Kerry where dinner is served in your hotel, after dinner a session with the locals a stones throw from your hotel.

Day 5.

Today we drive the famous Ring of Kerry we drive to the Gap of Dunloe and take a horse and trap into a u shaped glaciated valley left behind from the last ice age 9000bc, For any hangovers a cure can be had at Kate Karneys cottage at the foot of the Gap, we continue to the Bog Village to see the history of turf from the bog and have their famous Irish Coffee, The Ring of Kerry is part of the mystical & unspoilt region of Ireland that has attracted visitors for hundreds of years. Its spectacular beauty is beyond question the rest I can't describe you will have to see it for yourself lunch is served at the Thatch on the Ring Tonight a traditional pub session walking distance from your hotel and staggering distance home

Day 6.

Time for a swim in the hotel pool or browse Killarney before we stop at Aghadoe Heights overlooking the lower lake of Killarney for a group photo and depart Killarney for Doolin County Clare via the Tarbart Ferry across the River Shannon. We stop in Listowel for lunch and continue to take the Tarbart Ferry across the River Shannon from County Kerry to County Clare approx 20 minutes. Our day continues through small Irish villages to the Cliffs of Moher known as the Great Wall of Thomand standing 700 feet above sea level. Doolin is waiting for our arrival where dinner is served in your hotel and a session in the famous Gus O Connors pub.

Day 7.

We start our day late morning and take an overview of the Burran with a visit to Poulnabrone This dramatic site, on the karstic limestone pavement of the Burren, is one of the most famous Irish dolmens.  Poulnabrone Dolmen (Poll Na mBrón in Irish meaning "hole of sorrows") is an ancient portal tomb in the Burren, County Clare, Ireland, dating back to the Neolithic period, probably between 4200 BC to 2900 BC. Our journey continues to the City of the Tribesmen Galway arriving late afternoon here you have time to browse Galway City in your own time. Irish music session in Galway City 21.00hrs.

Day 8.

We depart Galway City to visit an early Christian site founded by St.Ciaran in the mid-6th century on the eastern bank of the River Shannon. The site includes the ruins of a cathedral, seven churches (10th  -13th century), two round towers, three high crosses and the largest collection of Early Christian graveslabs in Western Europe. The original high crosses and a selection of graveslabs are on display in the visitor centre. We continue to visit Sean Ryan at Leap Castle this Tower House is recognized as the most spiritualist sites in Ireland and a 15thc stronghold of the O Carroll Clan. Sean is recognized as the finest tin whistle player in Ireland so you can bring your instruments along for a session in the castle, finger food available for lunch bring your own refreshments there is a session looming and one to remember. We continue to Kinnitty Castle the Castle has a long and colorful history which dates back to ancient times. Located on an ancient druidic ceremonial ground, where leylines cross and mystical forces are prevalent, the area around Kinnitty can be considered to be the solar plexis chakra of Ireland. After dinner in the Castle a session in the Dungeon bar hosted by Con Ryan the proprietor of the Castle, be prepared for a late session and a late departure next day.

Day 9.

We depart Kinnitty late morning to Dublin and visit St.Patricks Cathedral St Patrick's Cathedral is traditionally the site of a holy well used by St Patrick for baptisms and a church was established here as early as the late fifth century. We continue our tour to Dvblinia and the Viking world a heritage centre in the heart of Dublin City, it will introduce you to medieval Dublin and the story of the Vikings in Dublin. We continue to your hotel to check in and take time to refresh before we have our last session in Dublin before your departure. Tonight an Irish music show including dinner a stones throw from your hotel.
